Govt wants to promote ties with Italy: Maryam
She discussed practical measures to facilitate exchanges of trade and cultural delegations between two countries
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said the government wants to promote ties with Italy in culture, tourism and trade sectors.
“The relationship between Pakistan and Italy should be transformed into a beneficial economic partnership,” she said during a meeting with Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan Marilina Armellin to discuss mutual cooperation in the fields of tourism, textile, leather, marble and carpets. She also discussed practical measures to facilitate exchanges of trade and cultural delegations between the two countries.
Maryam reviewed a proposal to increase Italian investment in olive cultivation in Chakwal and agreed to Italian investment in a livestock and dairy project in Punjab. She said: “We welcome Italian investors to Punjab, they will be fully facilitated in every possible way. Facilitation of work visas and an active role of the Trade Commission are key to increase trade.”
Marilina acknowledged the liveliness and hospitality of Lahoriites. She described public welfare projects in Punjab as impressive. “It was very nice to come to Pakistan, especially Lahore. Contrary to the false propaganda about its negative image, Pakistan is a wonderful country. The Trade Commission has started work to increase mutual trade. Steps are being taken to facilitate work visas.”
Maryam in her message on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists said cruelty and violence against journalists who raise the voice of truth should stop. She said: “Violence against journalists is condemnable in every country, including IIOJK and Palestine. The freedom of press with a sense of responsibility is the basis of democracy. It is very important to have a free press for a strong democratic society. Journalists are defenders of social justice and voice of people. Journalists who expose cruelty, injustice and lies are commendable. I am a guarantor and advocate of freedom of press.”
She added: “It is the duty of the government to protect the rights of journalists. I am determined to fulfill the dream of own roof for homeless journalists. We are with responsible and dignified journalists who follow the path of truth and will protect their rights.”
The chief minister offered condolences to bereaved families while expressing grief over the death of eight passengers in a bus accident in Jacobabad.
Also, Maryam sought a report from the CCPO Lahore and directed him to take immediate action against culprits while taking notice of the killing of three persons, including a man and his son in Lahore. She offered condolences to the bereaved family.
