Pakistan claim first position in Asian Open Taekwondo
KARACHI: Pakistan’s taekwondo team made history at the 6th Asian Open (Kyorugi) Taekwondo Championship, securing three gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals — the first time the nation’s male and female athletes have achieved such success at an international event.
The championship concluded on Thursday, with Pakistan claiming first place overall, followed by Kazakhstan in second and Malaysia in third. In the -58 kg final, Haroon Khan triumphed over his teammate Abubakar, winning gold with scores of 6-4 and 9-7.
In the women’s -73 kg category, Manisha Ali also brought home a gold medal, defeating Indonesia’s Paramata Sari 4-1 and 8-2 in the final. Earlier in the championship, Shahzaib earned gold in the -54 kg category.
