Man sentenced to death in blasphemy case under PECA law
Judge Mohammad Afzal Majoka convicts the man under Section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC)
ISLAMABAD: A special court established under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) has sentenced a man from Gujjar Khan to death in a blasphemy case.
Judge Mohammad Afzal Majoka convicted the man under Section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). In addition to the death sentence, the court also imposed a life imprisonment sentence and a seven-year prison term under Section 11 of PECA. A fine of Rs700,000 was levied against the convict on various charges. Judge Majoka directed the superintendent of Adiala jail to take the convict into custody.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had registered a case against Sajjad, which led to the ruling. This is the second such verdict in the past 20 days. Last month, the same court had sentenced a woman to death under PECA in another blasphemy case. The federal government has set up regular courts in Islamabad for offences under PECA, 2016.
