PSX marks World Investor Week 2024 with gong ceremony
KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) celebrated World Investor Week (WIW) 2024 with a gong ceremony, under the theme ‘Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy’.
The event, hosted in partnership with the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), took place at the PSX Trading Hall. This marks the fourth consecutive year the PSX has participated in this global initiative, which runs from October 7 to 13, 2024. Representatives from the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), securities brokers, asset management companies, and the Pakistan Stock Brokers Association (PSBA) were in attendance. The chief guest, SECP Chairman Akif Saeed, struck the gong to open the trading day, accompanied by PSX Chairperson Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Acting CEO Nadeem Naqvi and other senior officials.
In his remarks, Akif Saeed praised the PSX’s commitment to enhancing financial literacy and investor education. He highlighted the opportunities presented by Pakistan’s youthful population and growing digital infrastructure, emphasizing the need for ongoing efforts to equip investors with the knowledge to navigate the evolving financial markets. “We have a vast pool of potential investors eager to explore wealth creation and financial security,” he said, urging stakeholders to use the week as a platform for education and empowerment.
Nadeem Naqvi underscored the technological advancements that have made investing more accessible, such as the online ‘Sahulat Account’ facility. He also stressed the importance of risk assessment and prudent investment decisions, advising individuals to gradually learn about the companies they invest in. Dr Akhtar emphasized the PSX’s year-round efforts in promoting financial literacy, highlighting the numerous workshops, courses and webinars aimed at educating people on saving and investing in the stock market. She noted that in the last fiscal year alone, the PSX reached over 15,000 people across 162 awareness sessions nationwide.
