Customs seizes smuggled vehicles, goods worth Rs376m
Personnel of the Pakistan Customs Intelligence on Saturday seized Rs376 million smuggled vehicles and goods in an anti-smuggling operation.
Officials said that pursuant to a strict policy and drive initiated upon the directions of Muhammad Ali Raza Hanjra, director general, Intelligence and Investigation-Customs, various operations (anti-smuggling) were conducted under the supervision of Masood Ahmed, director, Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Karachi, against smuggled goods.
As a resulted of geared up anti-smuggling efforts during the period from 1st September to till date, 17 seizures have been effected pertaining to smuggled and non-duty paid foreign origin vehicles and miscellaneous goods valuing 376 million.
The vehicles include two heavy motorbikes and seven luxurious vehicles fetching market value of Rs260 million. The seized goods include LCD TVs (400), plastic dana (28,700 kilogrammes), sodium glutamate (1,950 kilogrammes), printing ink (900 kilogrammes), refrigerant gas-filled cylinders (720 kilogrammes), black pepper (4,790 kilogrammes), tyres, carpets, betel nuts, skimmed milk powder etc. along with the carrier vehicles (passenger buses, truck and cars).
