AIOU holds seminar on Islamic code of ethics
Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Thursday held a seminar on Islamic code of ethics and divine message of Almighty Allah relating to economics, deliberating upon ways and means to transform the prevailing system that is based on unjust socio-economic behaviour.
The seminar was a part of the new lecture series, started to address the socio-economic problems faced by the country, and find out their academic solution. The keynote address was delivered by the eminent economist Professor Dr. Syed Nisar Hussain Hamdani on the topic ‘Divine Economic Theory and Application in Emerging Global Economy.’
While presiding over the seminar, AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui announced that the university’s Faculty of Economics will be strengthened to enable the youth to understand and address the society-related issues. He also announced that PhD classes in economics will also be started soon to hold research study on the higher education level on the subject of public interests. He said that greater focus will be laid to publication of research journals and holding of national conferences on the socio-economic issues. Eight research journalists and a number of seminars and conferences were arranged during the last one and half years enabling the students and the faculty members to share their knowledge, experience and ideas on the relevant topics, he added.
Dr. Siddiqui further said that the cash awards will be given to the researches who will come up with innovative ideas through mini-nature projects to address issues confronted by the society these days. Dr. Hamdani who is currently Director School of Economic, AJK University gave detail presentation on Divine theory of economics based on Islamic teachings which provides ultimate solutions to the prevailing problems, like poverty, unfair distribution of wealth, unemployment and corruption.
