The investigation officer on Thursday filed an interim charge sheet against a female driver in a case pertaining to last month’s deadly Karsaz traffic accident, declaring the suspect’s UK driving licence as invalid.

Investigation officer Rehan Ahmed submitted the charge sheet before Judicial Magistrate (East) Mohammad Raza Ansari, stating that as per the opinion sought from the DIG Traffic Licence and Training, British citizens are required to have an international driving permit to drive in Pakistan and in its absence the driver is not authorised to drive with just the UK licence.

He said the suspect’s husband was asked to present the vehicle documents, driving licence, and medical documents, but he failed to do so. He added that the suspect didn’t have a Pakistani driving licence, due to which Section 322 of Pakistan Penal Code was invoked against her.

The IO stated that experts were being consulted regarding the vehicle involved in the accident, and a letter had been written to the NED vice-chancellor for an inspection of the vehicle, and to determine its speed, airbag, and other functions.

He said a letter had been written to the municipal authorities regarding the damage to property in the accident. A private company has been issued a notice regarding vehicle ownership, and the British High Commission had been written to for verification of the suspect’s British driving licence.

The charge sheet stated that according to the police surgeon’s report, the accused was driving under the influence of ice at the time of the accident. The CCTV footage of the accident had been sent to Lahore for forensic analysis, it added.
