CPSP looking for post-fellowship training in China for its fellows

A top level delegation of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan led by its president visited China to explore new venues for post fellowship training of its fellows in various universities there.

The Regional Director of CPSP Islamabad, Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi, informed ‘The News’ on Tuesday that the delegation led by CPSP President Professor Zafarullah Khan and comprising its members Vice President Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal and Professor Mehmood Ayaz held meetings with representatives of various medical universities in China. The delegation is hopeful that it would get offers of post fellowship training for CPSP fellows from medical institutions in China, he said.

He said the delegation of CPSP was welcomed warmly by Pakistan Ambassador to China who helped the delegation in holding meetings with the universities in China. The purpose of the CPSP delegation behind looking for post fellowship training for its fellows in China is to train them on skills and working with latest medical equipment being used in China, he said.

It is important that as many as 270 post-graduate trainees registered with the CPSP are getting training in seven specialties in Ireland under a Scholarship Exchange Programme between Health Services Executive Ireland and CPSP while well over 1,000 postgraduate trainees of the CPSP along with a number of consultants are working in KSA under various programmes.

The CPSP is also conducting examination in Nepal where majority of doctors are doing postgraduate training through the CPSP, said Professor Shoaib.

To a query, he said the CPSP has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Royal College of Physicians in England and soon the CPSP fellows would be able to get training in UK.

Keeping this in mind, the CPSP is hopeful that it would be successful in getting offers from the medical universities in China and the CPSP fellows would be able to learn and experience new skills in medical field there, he said.

Since the CPSP is providing training in as many as 73 different specialties in medical and surgical fields, it is looking for new venues around the world for further training of its fellows, said Professor Shoaib.
