Social media posts: Orya remanded in FIA custody
Orya was apprehended by the FIA’s Cybercrime Wing earlier on Thursday
LAHORE A district court in Lahore on Thursday granted four-day physical remand of anchorperson Orya Maqbool Jan to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over his social media posts linked to the Mubarak Sani case.
Orya was apprehended by the FIA’s Cybercrime Wing earlier on Thursday and taken to their office in Gulberg. His lawyer Ali Ashfaq confirmed the arrest, stating that Orya would be presented in court later in the day. The FIA requested 14-day physical remand, alleging that Orya was not cooperating with investigators. The FIA investigation officer claimed they had “concrete evidence” implicating the anchorperson.
However, Orya’s lawyer argued that the charges were unfounded, asserting that no one had been insulted and the allegations were baseless. He urged the court to dismiss the case, citing lack of evidence.
Orya, speaking to the court, stated that he had already provided the FIA with access to his social media accounts and questioned the need for remand, saying: “Have I stolen someone’s car that needs to be recovered?”
After hearing both sides, the court granted the remand and directed the FIA to submit a report on their investigations. The case against Orya stems from social media posts related to the controversial case involving Mubarak Sani, though specific details of his posts have not been made public.
