Interior ministry denies report
ISLAMABAD: Responding to a news item titled 'Pakistan seeks more evidence from UK’, appearing in The News dated 22 May 2016, the Interior Ministry spokesperson has rebutted the contents of the report terming them merely speculative and without any basis whatsoever.
The spokesperson said that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) neither contacted Scotland Yard nor did it make any request to seek any evidence from London Police in Dr. Imran Farooq murder case.
He said investigation into money laundering and Dr. Imran Farooq murder case was an ongoing process wherein the investigation agencies of the two countries were already cooperating with each other for the sake of justice and to bring the perpetrators to book.
The spokesperson regretted that despite oft-repeated appeals to the media to refrain from speculations in these highly sensitive cases, a section of the media continues to indulge in publishing news items without even bothering to verify the contents and authenticity of their unnanmed sources and their news.
He reiterated his appeal to the media to refrain from making statements or publishing any material that could possibly affect smooth investigations into the ongoing cases.
Zahid Gishkori adds: A senior official of FIA dealing with Imran Farooq murder case confirmed to The News on Saturday (May 21, 2016) that Islamabad had sought substantive evidences from London Police to further pursue this case.
He further said most probably a team of FIA will visit London in the first week of June, as it gets green light from the host country to collect evidences pertaining to this case. The Interior Ministry spokesperson's clarification itself confirms that both countries are cooperating on this case. This reporter stands by his story.
