Athlete Arshad Nadeem, who recently won a gold medal in the recent Paris Olympics, was honoured by Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori at an Independence Day ceremony at the Governor House on Wednesday.
The governor announced a cash prize of Rs2 million for the athlete. Nadeem’s coach Salman Iqbal Butt was also present on the occasion.
Nadeem arrived in Karachi at the invitation of Tessori to take part in grand celebrations at the Sindh Governor House to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day on Wednesday night. Renowned singer Atif Aslam also performed on the occasion.
The people attending the August 14 celebrations at the Governor House gave a warm reception when Nadeem arrived at the venue.
Tessori gave the title of Sher-e-Pakistan to Nadeem. He announced that he would recommend to the government the award of Sitara-e-Imtiaz for Nadeem’s mother and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for the coach of the renowned athlete who won a gold medal for Pakistan in the Olympics after 40 years.
Nadeem expressed gratitude to the governor for the respect and love shown to him. The athlete said that he had run out of words to befittingly thank the governor and people of Karachi for the warm reception he had received at the Governor House. A record number of people sang the national anthem in chorus on the occasion.
