Tribute paid to Quaid-i-Azam, Allama Iqbal
LAHORE:Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that if we look at the slave nations, we will know the value of freedom.
He was addressing the flag-hoisting ceremony held outside PU admin block, regarding Independence Day celebrations. The VC unfurled the flag and released the pigeons. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the minorities in Occupied Kashmir and India are still victims of persecution by Hindus. He said that even today, Muslims in India do not have religious, cultural and economic freedom. He said that we pay tribute to the ideology and efforts of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal and other leaders who timely realised the need that our nation needs a separate homeland.
He said that students, teachers and employees should play a role in the development and unity of the country. Later, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood inaugurated an olive grove planted in the Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) in connection with the tree plantation drive. Flag-hoisting ceremonies, Quran Khawani, prayers for the martyrs of Pakistan and cake-cutting ceremony featured the day at all UVAS campuses. The day began with Quran Khawani and special prayers in the university mosque for the martyrs and for the progress & prosperity of the country and university. Earlier, Prof Dr M Younus (DLA.I, T.I) along with dignitaries planted a number of saplings in the City Campus for the promotion of greenery.
Meanwhile, a flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) here in the lawns of the varsity's city campus. The ceremony commenced with the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof Nadia Naseem, raising the national flag. Following the flag-hoisting, speakers reflected on the profound philosophy of freedom, shedding light on the sacrifices made for independence and the deep-seated love for the homeland.
