ISLAMABAD: The federal government has finally responded to the reports of potential replacement of Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, as Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday said a decision on the matter was expected soon.
Reports of a consensus between the coalition partners in the federal government, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), over changing the Sindh governor had run rife recently.
Some reports said Tessori could be replaced with PML-N leader and former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) chief Bashir Memon. However, Dar refuted the reports of Memon's appointment as the Sindh governor.
He, however, said a decision regarding the Sindh governer would be made soon.
A day earlier on Saturday, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), another ally of the PML-N, said the MQM-P had to be consulted beforehand if the federal government decided to appoint a new governor in Sindh.
He stated this while talking to media persons after attending a ceremony in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area
Dr Siddiqui said his party didn’t follow rumours. He mentioned that the incumbent Sindh governor Kamran Khan Tessori did belong to the MQM-Pakistan.
