LAHORE: The chief executive of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has started making recommendations for the promotion of Pakistan javelin thrower and Olympian Arshad Nadeem to Grade 19.
A proposal for his promotion will be submitted to the board of directors of Lesco, which meets on Monday. Olympian Arshad Nadeem joined Lesco in 2011 as a sportsman in Grade 7 as an assistant linesman and progressed to Grade 18, based on his performance which is the highest grade in the company for a sportsman.
According to Lesco, Arshad Nadeem’s current position is line foreman and he is posted at Bhati Gate sub-division of Lahore. A meeting of the Lesco board of directors will be held on Monday in which for the first time in the history of the company, a sportsman’s promotion to Grade 19 would be recommended.
When contacted, Lesco Chief Executive Engineer Shahid Haider said that according to the rules of the company, a sportsman could be promoted to the maximum Grade 18, which it had already given to Arshad Nadeem. He said that the Lesco board of directors has the authority to promote Arshad Nadeem to Grade 19 for which recommendation will be made as per the rules. According to him, if the board of directors approved the recommendation for his promotion to Grade 19, his position could be changed to assistant manager.
