LAHORE : All the arrangements have been completed to organise the Family Fun Race and Azadi Marathon in a befitting manner on August 11 (today). It will be biggest marathon in the history of Punjab province. DG Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal said this while addressing a ceremony at SBP E-Library on Saturday.

Director Admin M Kaleem, Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Director Youth Affairs Rana Nadeem Anjum, Deputy Director Chand Perveen and all Divisional and District Sports Officers of the province were present in the ceremony.

All the participants of ceremony were given necessary guidelines for the successful holding of Azadi Marathon and Family Fun Race scheduled to be organised on August 11 (today) under the auspices of Punjab Sports Department.

Addressing the ceremony, Pervez Iqbal said that the 3-km Family Fun Race and 12-km Azadi Marathon will kick off from Liberty Chowk at 7.00am. “Punjab Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Khokhar will be the chief guest at the marathon race. Besides him, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Muzaffar Khan Sial and a large number of sports personalities will also be present on this occasion,” he informed. He further said that medical booths, information desks and water points will be set up at several points of the route to cope with any medical emergency. “Around 5,000 male and female athletes will participate in the Azadi Marathon. All the participants of Azadi Marathon and Family Fun Race will be provided best facilities,” he added. Pervez Iqbal said that Sports Board Punjab’s officials will be deputed at the starting and finishing points to conduct both the races smoothly and successfully. “Besides this, there will be several volunteers to extend any kind of guidance to the participants of Azadi Marathon and Family Fun Race,” he added.
