Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Monday conducted a meeting on the recently formed task force in which the focal persons of the provincial task force gave a detailed briefing on the overall issues and measures related to the elimination and prevention of organised crime.

Officials said that the meeting was attended by Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, DIGs of Special Branch, Headquarters, Crime and Investigation, Finance, Sukkur, Admin Karachi, East, West, South Ranges, RRF, AIGs of Operations and Admin, SSPs of the RRF and AVLC, range teams of the task force.

The IGP directed that the task force in Karachi work under the supervision of the additional IG while the task force at the level of other ranges/divisions of Sindh should deal with the overall issues and measures against organised crime under the head of the additional IG CTD.

He made it clear to the senior police officers present in the meeting that our aim as a team is to root out organised crime and its nexus and secure the future of future generations. He said that the police personnel found guilty of patronising organized crime should be dismissed from service without any concession, and not only departmental but also legal action should be ensured against them so that the performance and reputation of the institution was not affected due to black sheep.

Memon said that the Special Branch Police will have to strengthen the contacts with the provincial task force to eliminate organised crime, prevent it and take action against the involved groups and operatives successful.

He said that all the DIGs should ensure the provision of the budget allocated for the respective police stations so that all of their affairs and arrangements could be improved and made effective by making the police stations financially independent. Moreover, it is possible to prevent organised crime only with authentic information, but for this, we need to make the process of mutual contact and information-sharing and follow-up more foolproof, he suggested.

The IGP added that officers should be rewarded for their excellent performance against crime. He further said that the task force should be further mobilized with the involvement of young officers at the provincial level.

A day earlier, Memon conducted a review meeting on the progress of investigation of cases of martyred and injured personnel of Sindh Police this year. The Range DIGs of Karachi and other Police Range DIGs briefed the meeting about the progress made so far in the investigation of cases of martyrs and injured police officers and personnel of the respective districts. Moreover, investigation has revealed various factors in the cases of martyred policemen.

The IGP sought details about the attack on police personnel in Ghotki district recently. The CTD should be given the responsibility of investigating the cases of martyred policemen, he said and added that extraordinary steps needed to be taken to arrest the culprits involved in the killings of the policemen.

He directed that intelligence-based and combing operations should be expedited to arrest the accused named in the cases. The police team will be rewarded for their excellent performance and reprimanded for poor performance, he said.
