Wasa to build underground water tank in Nishtar Park
LAHORE:In a major development, Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) and Sports Board Punjab (SBP) have joined hands to resolve longstanding drainage problem of Nishtar Park Sports Complex (NPSC).
In this regard, DG Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal presided over a meeting at National Hockey Stadium on Monday. Director Wasa M Usman Babar, Director Admin Dr M Kaleem, Deputy Director Planning Tariq Khanzada and Assistant Director Mubasher Shaheen participated in the meeting.
Director Wasa M Usman Babar on this occasion said that now the long-standing issue of Nishtar Park Sports Complex will be resolved on permanent basis. “Wasa to lay an underground sewerage line to make this project a success,” he added.
Pervez Iqbal said that an underground water tank will be built at a cost of Rs950 million and in this regard, Sports Board Punjab has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC). “Now there will be no disruption is sports activities at various venues of Nishtar Park Sports Complex due to rain water,” he added.
He said that the rainwater of the underground water tank will be used for the watering of the grounds and playfields of the Nishtar Park Sports Complex. “The tender of this project will be opened on August 20 while the project will be completed before January 15, 2025,” he added.
Independence Day events
Punjab Youth Affairs Department will organise calligraphy, speech competitions and marathon and hockey events in Lahore to mark Independence Day (ID).
Addressing a meeting regarding ID programmes at National Hockey Stadium, DG Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal said the department has chalked out a comprehensive programme to celebrate the ID in a befitting manner.
He said: “We are going to engage our talented male and female youngsters in a number of interesting youth programmes and competitions on the ID.” Director Admin M Kaleem, Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed, Deputy Director Ataur Rahman and other officials also attended the meeting.
Earlier, Pervez Iqbal chaired another meeting of Lahore Division officers at National Hockey Stadium. The meeting was attended by Director Admin M Kaleem, Divisional Sports Officer Lahore Rana Nadeem Anjum, District Sports Officer Lahore Tanveer Abbas, Tehsil Sports Officers Nasir Malik and Asif Naeem Virk.
