PARACHINAR: Two persons were killed and over 40 sustained injuries as the firing between the two tribes over a land dispute continued in various areas for the second day on Thursday.
According to the police and district administration, firing took place over a land dispute between tribes living in Boshehra and Malikhel areas of the Kurram district, in which automatic weapons were used against each other.
The exchange of fire between the two tribes started on Wednesday evening and had been continuing throughout the day on Thursday.A rocket was also fired by one group in which a man and his son were injured in Balishkhel area.
Reports also suggested that incidents of firing occurred in Pewar and Tiri-Mangal areas due to which main and link roads remained closed for vehicular traffic.Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mahsud said that a peace jirga comprising elders from neighbouring Hangu and Orakzai districts had launched efforts to effect a ceasefire between the infighting tribes.
The district again witnessed bloodshed due to the result of ongoing clashes over a piece of disputed land. Numerous disputes over ownership of land, water, forests and mountains had occurred among tribes in the district, which often take a sectarian colour in Kurram.
