Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi convened a meeting on Tuesday to assess the progress of the ongoing price control campaign.
The meeting was attended by all deputy commissioners, Additional Commissioner Abdul Hannan Bhatti, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Commissioner Office Rabia Syed, and other officials. During the session, the deputy commissioners provided updates on the efforts undertaken by assistant commissioners to monitor prices and enforce official rates in their respective subdivisions.
Concerning the recent surge in prices of tomatoes, onions and a few other vegetables, the commissioner took note of the situation. He specifically instructed Deputy Commissioner East Shehzad Fazal Abbasi to enhance transparency within the market committee. Abbasi was tasked with organising a meeting with the market committee members and implementing measures to ensure transparency in the auction system at Sabzi Mandi.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the ongoing efforts to regulate prices of essential food items, encompassing fruits, vegetables, chicken, eggs, and grocery items. Naqvi emphasised the strict enforcement of official prices by deputy commissioners. He directed them to personally oversee the price control campaign, ensure that assistant commissioners conduct daily price checks, and submit daily action reports to the Commissioner’s office.
