KARACHI: The sports and culture department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced that the Metropolitan Cup 2024, which was to start from July 21, has been delayed.
Informed sources said that more football teams were interested in the event due to which the dates of the event have been extended. The Metropolitan Cup will now start from the first week of August. The schedule will be announced after inclusion of the teams.
Sources mentioned that preparation of Metropolitan Cup has been finalised.
All matches of the event will be organized at KMC-owned stadiums, including Lyari Football stadium, KMC Football Ground, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Football Stadium in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Kakri Ground and Trans Lyari Football Ground.
The prize money is Rs500,000 for the winners and Rs250,000 for the runners up.
The senior director sports and culture of KMC Raza Abbas Rizvi confirmed the change of the schedule. He said that Metropolitan Cup is one of the biggest football events.
He further said that players should not be less than 16 years of age.
