Assurances of continued assistance and cooperation were reiterated as the province’s top military and police representatives met at the V Corps Headquarters on Wednesday for discussions over the current law and order situation.

The participants included Corps Commander Karachi Lt-General Naveed Mukhtar, Sindh IGP AD Khowaja, Counter Terrorism Department’s Additional IG Sanaullah Abbasi and others.

According to an ISPR communiqué, the meeting took into consideration the existing security situation in Sindh, with particular focus on Karachi. Lt-Gen Mukhtar, it stated, appreciated the police department for its important role in restoration of peace in the mega city.

The statement further read that Lt-Gen Mukhtar had assured the senior police officials that the V Corps would continue to assist the Sindh Police in accordance with the directives of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.

The meeting came on the heels of last week’s session of the provincial apex committee, wherein it was decided that 20,000 new recruits would be inducted in the Sindh Police, all of whom would be trained by the Pakistan Army. A total of 8,000 of the new recruits, it had been announced, would be for law enforcement in Karachi.
