Rs2 million looted in year’s sixth bank heist

Two robbers managed to make away with Rs2 million from a branch of Bank Al-Habib located in Sector 11-1/2 of Orangi Town, on Monday.

Since office hours had lapsed the entrance to the bank was closed, however, it was no uphill task for the two to get in for it took the bank’s watchman just a knock to open the main entrance, stated a police official of the Pakistan Bazaar police station.

They snatched the guard’s weapon and overpowered him as soon as the door opened, he added.

The staffers were taken hostage at gunpoint while the cashier was told to hand over all the cash. According to the bank’s manager, it took the robbers a maximum of five minutes to stuff the bags and escape.

They were said to be well dressed and appeared to be middle-aged.

Later the police teams including Special Investigation Unit’s (SIU) personnel reached the bank and started gathering evidences.

An FIR was lodged at the Pakistan Bazaar police station by the bank’s manager against unidentified men.

The security guard was detained for questioning, while CCTV recordings of the bank were collected by the police; forensic experts were called in to develop the sketches of the suspects.

On April 5, six dacoits were reported to have made
away with Rs8 million in the city’s fifth bank heist this year.

According to police, the robbers had pulled up on three motorcycles in front of the Meezan Bank branch situated in Korangi No.2 at about 10:00 am. The completed their task within minutes and made off with the money and, as per some reports, the guards’ weapons as well.
