Drive against transporters overcharging fares to begin today
On the instructions of Sindh Senior Minister for Transport & Mass Transit Authority Sharjeel Inam Memon, a campaign against transporters charging excessive fares will start on Monday (today).
A press statement issued by the transport department said Memon has ordered taking action against those who are charging excessive fares in connection with Eidul Azha. His department has written to the IGP, the commissioners, the DIGs and the deputy commissioners.
He said the provincial government is determined to provide all kinds of relief to people. Those who harass passengers will not be forgiven, and strict action will be taken against the transporters and operators who arbitrarily increase the fixed fares, he added.
He mentioned that the campaign’s aim is to provide relief to people, and prevent any unnecessary financial pressure on passengers. He ordered all regional and district transport authorities to ensure providing people relief. The authorities concerned should take immediate action against transporters on complaints of charging excessive fares, he stressed.
