Everyone knows about reality of Muttahida’s mandate: Sharjeel
Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has said the provincial government is fully cognisant of the gravity of the situation arising from the tragic incidents involving killings of innocent persons during street robberies in the city.
He was talking to media persons on Friday after the Sindh Assembly sitting. He told the media that the Sindh government had been doing its best to overcome the menace of street crime in Karachi at the earliest.
He lamented that the lawmakers belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had unduly made an attempt to mar the proceedings of the House. He was of the view that the MQM-P had been deliberately attempting to create such an unruly situation. He maintained that there had been a marked reduction in the instances of target killings in the city after the new government came into power in the province. “The loss of every precious life is our own loss,” said Memon.
He said that everyone knew about the reality of the MQM-P’s mandate. He alleged that the MQM-P had been raising such issues for political point-scoring. He informed media persons that the Sindh Assembly had discussed the issues of street crimes and target killings in the city.
Memon said the provincial government was fully accountable for every incident involving the loss of any human life. He said the government was unreasonably subjected to insult in the House. “Everyone knows who was behind the incidents of target killings, extortion of money, and dead bodies found stuffed in gunny bags in the city. The MQM leaders in the past withdrew their statements and sought apology after giving radical statements,” he said, adding that Muttahida leaders should better not make such statements in the first place for which they would seek an apology in the future.
He recalled that the city in the past used to be shut down and vehicles torched on a direction received from a single phone call originating from London. He said that national economy had to suffer a massive loss of billions of rupees every time the city was forcibly shut down in such a manner.
Memon said President Asif Ali Zardari chaired his first-ever meeting on the law and order issues in the province in his first visit to Karachi after assuming the office of President.
He said that the first phase of the Safe City project had been completed in the city. He added that the drive against the illegal immigrants had been continuing as the foreigners illegally residing in the province were being caught and deported on a daily basis.
