Islamabad: The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) is currently supplying 1.3 million gallons of water per day to sectors G-13 and G-14. Of this, 300,000 gallons per day are sourced from FGEHA tube wells despite the issue of low water level due to less rain falls, whereas the remaining one million gallons per day are provided by private/ CDA water tankers. It is pertinent to mention that consumption of water increases multi-fold in summers, says a press release.

To mitigate the water supply shortfall, FGEHA after taking approval from DWP and subsequent endorsement from Executive Board commenced the epochal work on laying water conduction from Shah Allah Ditta to FGEHA sectors G-13 & G-14 as deposit work through CDA which is expected to significantly contribute to supply of water (approximately 1 million gallons of water per day); thus reducing the dependence of FGEHA on private water tankers.

The total estimated cost (PC-I) of this project is Rs353.790 million. As a result of dedicated and devoted efforts of DG FGEHA, the contractor had been mobilised at site in December 2023

The execution of work on water conduction pipeline from Shah Allah Ditta was divided in to three packages. Progress of each package from January-May 2024 is a testament to the concerted efforts of management of FGEHA for timely completion of project. 75 % work on Package-I (Providing and Laying 48” dia pipe at missing portions of Sector D-12, E-12 Islamabad), has been completed while progress of Package-II (Providing and Laying 36” dia pipe at missing portions of Sector F-12.) and Package-III (Providing and Laying 30” dia pipe at missing portions of Sector G-13, G-14 Islamabad) is 33 % & 82 % respectively.
