Following the federal and provincial governments’ announcement of a public holiday to observe Youm-e-Takbeer on Tuesday (today), public and private educational institutions announced cancelling all classes and postponing all examinations to be held today.

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi issued a statement that the Secondary School Certificate exams scheduled for May 28 have been postponed, and that the new date for the exams would be announced later.

The University of Karachi and the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology also announced cancelling all classes and postponing all exams to be held today, with a new date for the exams to be announced later.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh government, all offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils would observe a holiday today. Earlier, as per the notification issued by the federal government, Youm-e-Takbeer was declared as a public holiday by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

On May 28, 1998, Pakistan had conducted nuclear tests at the Ras Koh Hills in the Chagai district of Balochistan. Youm-e-Takbeer is commemorated as the day Pakistan became a nuclear power.
