Action on cards against rickety jeeps in Kaghan
MANSEHRA: The police department on Tuesday announced that it will check the fitness of jeeps transporting tourists to mountainous resorts in Kaghan valley and Shogran to minimize road fatalities and remove the dilapidated four-wheelers from roads.
“The incidents of road accidents on the mountainous tracks in Kaghan and Shogran have increased so, we have decided to inspect the fitness of thousands of four-wheelers operating in these areas and throughout the district to reduce fatalities,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Shahnawaz Khan while speaking to reporters.
He said that District Police Officer Shafeeullah Khan Gandapur had directed them to inspect all four-wheelers in Kaghan and Shogran following a recent incident where two female students from Postgraduate College Haripur died in a jeep accident in Kawai area earlier this week.
“We have directed the motor and vehicle examiner to schedule physical inspection for the four-wheelers in Kaghan and Shogran and we cannot allow drivers to endanger the lives of passengers in these remote parts of the district,” he said.
The DSP said the documents of jeeps operating in these mountainous areas will be checked and verified and all four-wheelers without proper documentation will face legal action.“Drivers without licenses will be prohibited from operating four-wheelers on such dangerous tracks,” he added.
He said additional wardens were deployed in Kaghan to ensure smooth flow of traffic and to check the documents of jeep drivers during.“We have formed teams for Kaghan and Shogran to crack down on overloading and those charging fares higher than those set by the Regional Transport Authority,” he said.
