“Pakistan’s economic hub has been facing issues for many years. Karachi, the city paying over 50 per cent of the nation’s taxes, has been neglected,” said Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Karachi Division Political Secretary Allama Mubashir Hassan during a press conference at Wahdat House on Sunday.

Flanked by MWM leaders Allama Hayat Abbas Najafi, Syed Ahsan Abbas, Nasirul Husseini Asif Safvi and Naushad Ali, Allama Hassan said that various people have been protesting over the city’s issues, but its problems remain unresolved and are only worsening.

He said Karachi’s residents are distressed due to issues with water, electricity and gas. He added that in the past four months over 70 people have been killed in street crime, many of whom were the sole breadwinners of their families.

“One rider was also killed in a street crime. No government official has visited their families to offer condolences. The most incompetent and corrupt government is imposed on Sindh, which has become the most backward province in the country.”

He mentioned that “in the Dubai Leaks names of top Pakistan Peoples Party leaders are listed, with Sharjeel Memon being on the top among corrupt politicians”. He said that everyone knows how Murtaza Wahab became mayor of Karachi, adding that the mayor is “unaware of the city’s issues”. He said the Peoples Party has not solved a single issue.
