DCs told to continue removal of encroachments for better traffic flow

The Karachi administration is persistently cracking down on encroachments obstructing traffic.

Deputy commissioners have briefed Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi about their recent actions in various areas.

The commissioner has instructed all deputy commissioners to continue removing encroachments from sidewalks and roads to enhance traffic flow in the city.

Deputy Commissioner Keamari, Junaid Iqbal, reported on actions taken on Friday and Saturday. According to his report, over 80 per cent of the encroachments were removed from Pak Colony, Old Golimar, on Friday with the help of the police, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, and the district anti-encroachment force. This has significantly improved traffic conditions in the area.

The report detailed the elimination of encroachments on Pak Colony Bridge, Old Golimar, including the removal of 15 makeshift homes, two makeshift warehouses, nine makeshift animal pens, and three permanent encroachments. Two illegal permanent houses, inhabited by families, have been given a week’s notice to vacate.

The deputy commissioner noted that on Friday, more than 70 per cent of illegal parking was eradicated, and warnings were issued against future violations. However, illegal parking resumed on Saturday, facing resistance during the enforcement action.

The deputy commissioner complained about the lack of cooperation from the traffic police, emphasizing the need for their support to make traffic improvement efforts effective. The report also mentioned ongoing actions against the sand and gravel mafia at Lyari River.

Crushing plants, established with permission from the town administration, have been warned and instructed to report to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to verify the permits issued by the concerned town administration.
