MIRANSHAH: A portion of a lone private girls school damaged in a powerful explosion in Shewa tehsil in North Waziristan tribal district on Thursday.

Local and police sources said that unidentified militants first forced their entry into the private girls school and started torturing the watchman before planting explosives to the building in the dead of night.

The militants, they added, triggered a blast with a remote-controlled device, destroying two rooms and damaging the entire structure of the schools. No casualty was reported in the explosion as the sabotage act was carried out at night and no one was present inside the school except the watchman.

It was learnt that the school had received threats of targeting it with explosives several times in the past. The locals said there were several government girls schools but it was the only private school for girls to impart quality education students in the area.
