Wasa accelerates preparations for monsoon

Rawalpindi:The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) in Rawalpindi has accelerated preparations for the monsoon season. On Wednesday, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for the Government of Punjab directed a third-party team to review Wasa's monsoon preparations and drainage machinery. The team, led by the Superintending Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department of Gujranwala Division, Qaiser Rashid, visited Wasa Rawalpindi to conduct the review.

The Managing Director of Wasa, Muhammad Salim Ashraf, and the Director of Sewerage and Drainage were also present during the visit. The third-party team reviewed Wasa's heavy machinery and declared the machines and drainage arrangements to be satisfactory.

In addition, the Superintending Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department reviewed the cleaning of sewage lines using modern winching machines on Asghar Mall Road. Speaking to the media during the occasion, Superintendent Engineer Qaiser Rashid and Managing Director Muhammad Salim Ashraf expressed satisfaction with the condition of the machinery used in preparation for the monsoon season. A summary of funds for the proper cleaning of Nullah Leh has been sent to the Punjab government, and approval is expected soon. Muhammad Salim Ashraf expressed hope that all arrangements will be completed before the monsoon season. Furthermore, funds of Rs. 6 crore have been sanctioned for the major drains of the city, and the tendering process has commenced.

Muhammad Salim Ashraf also urged citizens not to throw garbage and debris in the drains and sewer lines. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi, Hasan Waqar Cheema, imposed a ban on dumping any kind of waste or construction materials into Nullah Leh. He imposed Section 144 and directed strict action to be taken against those who violated the ban.
