The Sindh police chief has sought proposals for bringing reforms in the operations department of the provincial police department, and the establishment and merger of police stations.

IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon chaired a review meeting at the Central Police Office to discuss the operations department’s reforms. He also held detailed discussions about the establishment and merger of police stations in view of population.

The operations Addl IGP gave a detailed briefing on the locations of police stations in terms of population, appointments of SHOs, SIOs, and other officers and staff, financial and administrative matters, and capacity and other necessary reforms required.

Memon said that in the proposals related to the establishment and integration of police stations, the area population, location, crime rate and crime analysis, classifications such as normal, sensitive and very sensitive, and distance of police stations should also be taken into account. He said that opinions with suggestions should also be sought regarding the merger of low crime police stations under crime analysis, including former officers and dignitaries of the area, while more suggestions should also be prepared about the appointment of other staff, including important responsibilities such as appointment of SHOs and SIOs.

He also said that people-friendly reforms in police stations and the provision of more manpower would not only help establish law and order but would also emerge as a useful and effective weapon against crime.

“We have to make the services of police stations positive and better with all positive and people-friendly policing because this is the need of the hour, and by doing so, strong and sustainable relations between the police and the public will definitely become a reality, which will undoubtedly strengthen the forming of a crime-free society.”

The IGP said that to fully benefit from the police training curriculum and training modules, it is necessary to organise departmental courses, workshops and lectures, and continue the initiative in a continuous manner.

He said that schedules of regular courses should be prepared to strengthen operational and investigation efficiency so that all policing issues can be successfully achieved through training equipped with the best, quality and modern techniques.
