IGP recalls unsanctioned manpower from unauthorised persons, offices
Concerned over the shortage of police officials and vehicles, the Sindh police chief has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all the unsanctioned manpower and vehicles from unauthorised persons and offices.
IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon recently held a law and order meeting at his office, where he was informed about the shortage of officials for fighting crime. He ordered a thorough investigation, and directed all the DIGs and SSPs to immediately withdraw the unsanctioned manpower and vehicles from unauthorised persons and offices.
He also ordered all the SSPs to stop the misuse of police mobiles. The Sindh police have been directed to withdraw the unauthorised police mobiles from private banks, private institutions, public institutions and prominent personalities. The police chief instructed all officers in Sindh to work together to protect people’s lives and properties. Strict orders for the purpose are likely to be issued soon. He clearly ordered that police vehicles are not be misused.
The DIGs have started implementing the police chief’s orders by telling their subordinates that the IGP has ordered withdrawing the manpower and police vehicles provided to unauthorised persons and offices as well as police lines, and deploying them at police stations for fighting crime.
They said the IGP has also ordered submitting district-wise lists of the guards, gunmen and police vehicles provided to different persons. Many persons have been assigned police gunmen from different districts, so such duplication will be checked through the consolidated list, they added.
The DIGs ordered their subordinates to personally revisit the manpower and vehicles deployed at different places, saying that unnecessary staff would be reduced to deploy them at police stations. They also sought a report showing how many police officials and vehicles were withdrawn, and how many extra officials were deployed at police stations.
Promotions
On the IGP’s directions, the Departmental Promotion Committee finalised the names of the executive cadre of the Sindh police officers who met the criteria for their promotion to list F and later the rank of inspector.
The committee issued a notification to include the names of 294 senior-most confirmed sub-inspectors in the F list and later promote them to the rank of inspector (grade 16). A total of 414 officers were considered for promotion to inspector, of which 247 were promoted and 47 were promoted to future posts (April to July 2024).
Of the 247 cases promoted, 107 were promoted with incomplete documents and seven are subject to return to the Sindh police from other departments within 90 days. The list of departmental promotions also includes six retired sub-inspectors, while there are 104 cases whose development has been delayed due to incomplete documents and other reasons. Ten officers were superseded for promotion.
