LAHORE: The Punjab Police have achieved historic success in an anti-narcotics drive conducted under the special directions of Maryam Nawaz as they arrested the Jordan gang, the biggest drug supplier in Lahore, and recovered drugs worth crores of rupees, says a government’s press release.

The police conducted a special operation and traced the accused with the help of IT and other modern technologies. Maryam praised the police by calling them to her office and directed them to continue working hard.

Earlier, the chief minister was briefed by authorities that the Jordan gang was considered to be a mysterious and influential drug supply gang in Lahore. It was told that Marijuana, ice, hashish, opium and other drugs were provided in imported packaging. Drugs in the form of chocolate, toffee, etc. were sent to Central Asia, Canada, Mexico and other countries. The authorities apprised the chief minister that Muhammad Ayub, operating in the name of Jordan, was supplying drugs in Pakistan through various sources. Members of the Jordan gang including Mohammad Ali, Aziz, Mohammad Nadeem, Samina Iftikhar, Sana and Fatima Zahra were arrested in DHA Phase 6, along with nine gunmen. The accused were supplying drugs by contacting suppliers in Pakistan through fake ID.

IG Police, CCPO, Additional Secretary Law and Order, SSP and other officials were present in the meeting. “Saudi investors coming to Pakistan are warmly welcomed,” said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday. She expressed best wishes for the success of the Pakistan Saudi Arabia Investment Conference.

She said: “Saudi Arabia is a reliable brotherly country for Pakistan. Our historical fraternal relationship is changing into an economic partnership. Holding the conference is a promise for prosperity. The arrival of a 50-member delegation from 30 Saudi companies is a clear proof of Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman’s attachment to Pakistan. A direct agreement between Saudi and Pakistani investors is welcome.”

The CM on Monday met newly-appointed assistant commissioners. Chairing a meeting with the ACs, she emphasized service delivery and said: “Keep your doors open to the public, listen patiently and prioritize bringing ease to people’s lives. Respect people’s representatives, but remember, even I can be wrong, so don’t hesitate to correct me. The assistant commissioners are like my eyes, ears and arms. The public service agenda must be fulfilled in any case.”

She directed them to ensure merit. “I have a zero-tolerance policy for corruption. Public service is not only the responsibility of officers but is also their first duty. Responsibility is not given, but it must be taken. The young officers have to prove themselves with performance. The government writ should be upheld, but human dignity should also be maintained. Everyone should maintain merit. All issues including education, health and price control be given full attention.”

Maryam directed the ACs to ensure the sale of bread at Rs 16 and Naan Rs 20 in their areas. “Artificial inflation be reduced through price control mechanisms. The Provincial Enforcement Authority will help district administrations. Repair broken streets and poor sanitation in Punjab. Monitor medical facilities for better healthcare,” she concluded.
