Raisani reveals names of accomplice politicians, bureaucrats

QUETTA: The suspended Balochistan Finance Secretary Mushtaq Raisani, who was arrested on Friday for his involvement in massive financial embezzlement, has started disclosing the names of his facilitators.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Raisani during a raid on the finance department at the Civil Secretariat.Over Rs650 million local and foreign currency and gold jewellery weighing several kilogrammes were recovered from his residence.

The bureau is conducting raids in different areas to arrest the others identified by Raisani.The suspect also disclosed had the bureau delayed the action by a day, the money would have been sent abroad through the Hundi system.

According to the latest updates, Raisani had admitted that the money recovered from his residence was stolen from the national coffers.On Saturday, Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Hanif sent the suspended finance secretary on a 14-day physical remand and handed him over to the NAB for further investigation.The bureau told the judge that the accused had embezzled government funds during 2013 and 2015 and stashed the looted money at his house.

The accused informed the court that he was a diabetic on which the judge directed the bureau to provide him with full medical facilities.On the other hand, in a late night notification, the Balochistan government announced the suspension of Mushtaq Raisani. The notification said the secretary finance had been suspended following his arrest by the anti-corruption watchdog.

Adviser to the Balochistan Chief Minister on Finance Khalid Langau has also resigned from his post following Raisani’s arrest.Raisani, an influential bureaucrat in Balochistan, has served as secretary finance for the last few years. He served in the same position during the PPP government’s term.
