‘Modern innovations must to make agriculture profitable business’

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) organised the Besakhi Wheat Harvesting festival that was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan.

The festival was arranged by the Senior Tutor Office and Directorate of Farms at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Farmer Sarwat Malik, Imran Nasir, Dean of Food Science Dr Masood Sadiq Butt, Senior Tutor Dr Shaukat Ali, Director of Farm Shahid Ibne Zameer, DG NIFSAT Dr Imran Pasha, Director of Student Affairs Dr Nadeem Abbas, Dr Muhammad Kashif, and Dr Umer Gul attended the festival.

Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that modern innovations are a prerequisite to making agriculture a profitable business that would improve the economic condition of the farming community and growing population. He said that last year, 35,000 students of the UAF in collaboration with the Agriculture Department visited farmers across the province to make them aware of modern trends in wheat sowing. “The UAF, in collaboration with Washington State University, is working on high-yielding wheat varieties that will boost average production and help ensure food security,” he added.

PHA starts cleanliness drive: The Director General of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Abdul Qadir Shah, announced the commencement of cleaning, restoration and upgrading work on greenbelts and central medians along Jhang Road, Samundri Road, Sargodha Road and Jaranwala Road. Orders have also been issued for the redesign and upgrade of Hilal-e-Ahmar Chowk, GTS Chowk and Agricultural University Chowk.
