‘Promotion of IOs, SHO should be linked to resolution of cases’
DIG Crime and Investigation give a briefing on crime, investigation, reforms and other matters
The Crime and Investigation Committee of the Sindh police has proposed that the promotion of investigating officers and SHOs to the next post should be subject to the resolution of cases, which will not only improve their investigational but also operational capabilities to a significant extent.
The proposed was put forward in a meeting chaired by Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Monday at the Central Police Office (CPO) regarding the investigation department and its reforms and other aspects.
Officials said the IGP discussed in detail proposals related to reforms and upgradation of the investigation and legal department of the Sindh police and gave necessary instructions for further improvement in all matters.
The meeting was attended by the DIGs, of Headquarters Sindh, Investigation-Crime, Admin Karachi, Finance, and Establishment, and the AIGs of Operations, Admin and Legal Branch, CPO.
The DIG Crime and Investigation gave a briefing on crime, investigation, reforms and other matters.The meeting was told that it is necessary to amend the police rules through legislation for the committee’s proposals and make implementation measures possible.
Memon said the Crime and Investigation Committee should prepare comprehensive proposals to increase the capacity and resources of the investigation and legal department. He said concrete steps should be taken on the proposal to link the investigation cases with the promotion of officers.
He said that we have to provide protection to complainants and witnesses with the aim of making evidence effective in cases like investigation of cases and ensuring their successful logical conclusion.
Moreover, he informed meeting that the police department intends to recruit 400 prosecutors. He said these prosecutors, together with the investigating officers of the police, will strengthen and make all the issues related to the successful completion of the cases strong and effective. Memon said that this is the time of digitization and computerization and the use of modern technology by the police had become very important. He told the officers that after the registration of the case, the FIR should be conveyed to the prosecutors through an automation system, and the purpose of doing so is to make the investigation of the cases successful through effective and timely.
IGP Memon said the Sindh government has vowed to provide all possible support and assistance to every police department, which is undoubtedly a matter of honour for the police.Meanwhile, IGP Memon, ending a controversy regarding the transfers of 79 policemen from the interior of Sindh to Karachi, had ordered their transfers to B Company, Garden Headquarters. Officials said that on the orders of the IGP, 79 police officers who came from Shikarpur would be transferred to B Company.
Memon ordered that no posting be given in Karachi to these official as there were other complaints against the officials, including links with suspects.Moreover, departmental action has been initiated against these officials and show-cause notices also served. Memon said these officials are being transferred to B Company and an inquiry is being conducted against them, and later further action will be taken in the light of the inquiry report.
