US Diplomats unveil T20 World Cup countdown clock in Lahore

LAHORE: US diplomats, led by Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Andrew Schofer, unveiled the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Countdown Clock at the iconic Kinnaird College cricket grounds in Lahore. The grand event, set to commence in June across the West Indies and USA, was celebrated with fervor and enthusiasm by cricket enthusiasts and dignitaries alike.

The distinguished gathering included DCM Andrew Schofer, US Consul General in Lahore Kristin Hawkins, US Consul General in Karachi Conrad Tribble, and US Consul General in Peshawar Shante Moore, who graced the occasion on the invitation of Kinnaird College Principal Dr. Rukhsana David.

Sponsored by Ali Khan Tareen’s Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP), the ICC T20 World Cup Countdown Clock symbolizes the unwavering passion and love for cricket among Pakistani fans. As a testament to the excitement surrounding the upcoming tournament, the unveiling ceremony marked a significant milestone in the countdown to cricketing glory.

Amidst cheers and applause, Andrew Schofer and CG Kristin Hawkins ceremoniously pressed the button to unveil the countdown clock, signaling the commencement of the countdown to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The event was attended by diplomats, officials, Ali Khan Tareen, young women cricketers from Southern Punjab, and students and teachers from Kinnaird College for Women University (KCWU).

Adding to the excitement, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy graced Lahore and will be exhibited at the historic Gaddafi Stadium during the final T20I match between Pakistan and New Zealand.

In a display of camaraderie and sportsmanship, the US diplomats engaged in an exhibition cricket match against a team of young girls from Southern Punjab, led by Ali Khan Tareen. The friendly match captivated spectators and underscored the universal appeal of cricket as a unifying force. Expressing his excitement, Andrew Schofer emphasized the US Mission in Pakistan’s enthusiasm for the upcoming ICC events to be held in the USA.
