Villagers in Wana protest ‘illegal’ raid

WANA: The residents of Mughalkhel village near Wana Bazaar on Tuesday staged a protest against the police raid on the house of an alleged drug dealer.

The police in Lower South Waziristan district raided the house of an alleged drug dealer in Wana, which triggered a protest.The members of the Mughalkhel tribe along with workers of some political parties staged a protest outside the Police Lines, terming the raid illegal.

The protest ended after District Police Officer (DPO) Farmanullah held talks with the protesters.A police party under the supervision of Wana Police Station SHO Allah Nawaz Wazir raided the house of an alleged drug dealer Riaz and arrested him from Mughalkhel village near the Wana Bazaar. The local politicians and residents protested against this move of the police SHO, calling it illegal.

A large number of people, including workers of all political parties, participated in the protest demonstration.The protesters raised slogans against the police force, local district administration and law-enforcement agencies and demanded action against the SHO in question.

DPO Farmanullah met the delegation of the protesters following efforts by Mughalkhel village council chairman Rehan Wazir and upon successful negotiations, the protest was ended.Farmanullah assured the representatives of the protestors that an investigation would be conducted into the incident.
