PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat’s controversial and baseless claims about an important regional ally were very poorly timed. The country is desperately trying to attract much-needed foreign investment and the economy is in serious trouble. Nor is this the first time that the PTI has jeopardized smooth foreign relations through its self-importance and arrogance, as the PDM and others have pointed out.
In my view, there are far too many cooks in the PTI kitchen who all want to be the closest to the head chef, who just so happens to be in jail. The chaotic nature of their public meetings and press conferences is indicative of the party’s internal conflicts. The party is undoubtedly going through hard times, but discipline will be essential for its continued survival.
