Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim takes oath as PHC CJ
PESHAWAR: Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim took oath as chief justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Saturday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali administered oath to the newly appointed chief justice at a ceremony held at the Governor’s House.
The oath-taking ceremony was also attended by KP Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur, Supreme Court judge Justice Musarat Hilali, judges of Peshawar High Court, lawyers, chief secretary, Inspector General of Police and secretaries of different departments.
Earlier, Secretary Law read out the appointment order of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim as the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court.
After the administration of oath, Governor Ghulam Ali congratulated the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court on his new responsibilities and expressed his best wishes for him.
After the retirement of former chief justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, the Ministry of Law and Justice had issued orders for the appointment of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim as the acting chief justice of the PHC by President Asif Ali Zardari until his confirmation as the regular chief justice by the parliamentary committee for the appointment of judges.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan had earlier recommended the appointment of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim as the regular chief justice.
Born on December 2, 1969, he received his secondary education in the year 1985 from University Public School, Peshawar and Higher Secondary School Certificate from Government College, Peshawar, in the year 1987.
He did bachelor of arts from the Government College, Peshawar, in the year 1989 and then received his LLB degree from the Khyber Law College, Peshawar, in the year 1992.
He was enrolled as an advocate of the lower courts on May 18, 1993 and then enrolled as an advocate of the high court on March 11, 1995. Enrolled as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on September 26, 2008
He also remained as assistant advocate general of KP from 1999 to 2000 besides special prosecutor of the National Accountability Bureau from 2001 to 2002.
He was appointed as additional advocate general KP from 2008 to 2010.
He also remained joint secretary Peshawar High Court Bar Association for the year 1998-1999 and later elected as general secretary PHC Bar Association for the year 2007-2008 and also chosen as president PHC Bar Association for the year 2013-2014
He was elevated to the bench as additional judge on August 11, 2016 and later one year extension was granted on July 25, 2017 by the Supreme Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
He was confirmed as permanent judge of the PHC on June 1, 2018.
