Call to check unemployment, raise wages
LAHORE: Speakers at the conference urged all the political parties to tackle serious rising unemployment, poverty and ignorance and irrational gap between the rich and the poor.
A conference of the workers was held here Thursday under the auspices of All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions (Regd) at Bakhtiar Labour Hall, on the 31st death anniversary of the Late Bashir Ahmad Bakhtiar, one of the founder of Indo-Pak Trade unionism and freedom fighter for establishment of Pakistan. The conference was presided over by Abdul Latif Nizamani President of the Federation and was also addressed by Khurshid Ahmad, General Secretary of the Federation, along with other representatives of the Federation. They demanded the government raise the wages of employees commensurate with price-hike and lift the ban imposed on exercising the right of trade unions in accordance with the fundamental rights guaranteed in the Constitution of Pakistan and ILO Convention ratified by the government. They also demanded workers’ safety at workplace and get implemented Labour Laws to save the workers from exploitation and curb forced labour and child labour and provide free standard education to all.
