LAHORE: The ambassador of Russia to Pakistan, Albert Khorev, met Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman on Wednesday at the Governor's House.
In the meeting ways to enhance mutual cooperation in various fields were discussed. Governor expressed deep sorrow and regret over the loss of over 140 precious lives in a recent terrorist attack in Russia. Governor Balighur Rehman said that friendly ties between the two countries are growing stronger with each passing day. He said that the two countries need to further strengthen trade and economic ties. The governor said that education partnership should be a priority area for both countries.
He underscored the need to start joint ventures to highlight the cultural heritage between the two countries. He said that there is a great scope of investment in the fields of agriculture and agricultural research in Pakistan.
He lauded the initiative of establishment of "Russian Language Centre" in Punjab University. Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev said that Pakistan and Russia have excellent and cordial relations. He said that Russia wants to strengthen trade relations between the two countries in trade, culture and other fields. Governor said that every country must play its role in creating an environment of peace and harmony in the world.
Envoy inaugurates PU Russian language classrooms
Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev Wednesday inaugurated renovated and upgraded classrooms for teaching and promoting Russian language in Punjab University. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood welcomed the envoy. The Russian delegation included Head of Russian House in Pakistan Ruslan M Prokhorove and others while Principal Oriental College Prof Dr Nabila Rehman, Director Institute of Languages and Linguistics Dr Hafiz Muqit, Assistant Prof of Russian Language Dr Ekaterina Gavrishchuk and faculty members were present on the occasion.
The classrooms were upgraded with the funding from the Russian government institution i.e Federal Agency of the Russian Federation under “Rossotrudnichestvo” project, which has provided a large-scale modernisation of Russian language classes located in all countries of the world as part of the international humanitarian programme.
On the occasion, Khorev said Russia and Pakistan have excellent relations. He said Russia is promoting economic relations with Pakistan and for the first time Pakistan-Russia trade volume has crossed $1 billion mark.
