KWSC places covers on 22,000 manholes
The Karachi Water Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has placed covers over more than 22,000 manholes across the city and it plans to install as many more manhole covers in the future.
Acting on instructions from KWSC Chie Executive Officer Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, chief engineer sewerage Aftab Alam Chandio is spearheading the project.
Chandio said that under the supervision of the executive engineer sewerage concerned, 12,000 open manholes have been covered so far, and another 10,000 covers have been placed on manholes under instructions of the relevant union committee chairman.
He said that under instructions of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and KWSC CEO Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, and with the support of union committee chairmen, manhole covers are being placed in different areas.
Ahmed told the citizens in a message that it is the responsibility of the water corporation to install manhole covers, but protecting them from theft is the responsibility of not only the corporation but also of the citizens; therefore, citizens should catch elements stealing manhole covers and hand them over to the police.
