Four Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officers were arrested in the early hours of Saturday for allegedly abducting, beating and extorting three people.

The Special Investigation Unit raided the CTD Garden over the “unlawful” detention of a man named Jasim and two of his friends.

Jasim’s complaint led to the registration of a case at the Tipu Sultan police station. He and his friends had been taken into custody and brought to the CTD Garden.

Jasim said the officers subjected him to severe violence in the Garden cell, and also made him write on a blank sheet of paper and recorded his fingerprints.

He said a man named Noor owed him Rs63,000 but Noor blocked him when he asked for the money, adding that Noor then contacted him through a man named Shoaib and asked him to meet at PECHS.

The complainant said that when Jasim and his friends reached there, the CTD officers put them in a van and took them to the Garden cell, where Noor beat him and demanded Rs400,000 from him.

Jasim said they were released after he paid the money. The CTD officers arrested over the incident have been identified as ASI Rafaqat, ASI Liaquat, Jahanzeb and Haris. According to the CTD, an inquiry would be conducted into the matter and the officers would be sacked.
