ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court granted post-arrest bail to former minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Monday and ordered his release in a case related to the allotment of land near Jhelum.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri heard Chaudhry Fawad’s bail petition in the aforementioned matter. At the beginning of the hearing, the chief justice expressed annoyance with the NAB prosecutor over his statement, questioning how a matter involving a Rs5 million bribe falls within the jurisdiction of the NAB. He further inquired about the main evidence against the accused held by the NAB.
Justice Farooq noted that the anti-graft watchdog had arrested the accused before seeking evidence from the relevant institutions.Earlier, the NAB prosecutor said that the case was at the inquiry stage and that his department had written to the relevant institutions. He said that the prosecution possessed a witness who claimed that the former minister had accepted a bribe worth Rs5 million regarding land allotment.
