Never judge a cat by its cover

This letter refers to the news report ‘MARGO selected as Islamabad’s’ (March 20, 2024) While this is certainly interesting and entertaining news, the report uses cheetah and Asian leopard cat interchangeably when they are two separate species. As of now, the Asiatic cheetah is largely confined to neighbouring Iran while the Asian leopard cat can be indeed be found in Pakistan.

It is also important not to confuse the leopard cat with the leopard. The former is not the large predator we usually think of when we hear ‘leopard’, it is a very small distinct species.
