PESHAWAR: The Malakand Food Safety Authority team conducted inspections using a modern mobile food testing lab along the Swat Expressway, resulting in the destruction of over 3,000 litres of substandard and adulterated milk.

A spokesperson for the authority said that 250 packs of non-labeled and substandard ice cream were seized from a vehicle and subsequently destroyed, with heavy fines imposed.

In a joint operation conducted by the Food Authority and the Cantonment Board in Nowshera Cantt, he said, several bakeries and their production units were inspected. Four bakeries were sealed due to poor hygiene and sanitation conditions.

He said 12,000 liters of syrup, 10 kg of dye, 200 liters of oil, 10 kg of besan (gram flour), and 125 kg of syrup were seized from the bakery units and destroyed on the spot.

The Lower Dir team also carried out inspections in various markets, resulting in the discovery and disposal of over 65 kg of expired food items, the spokesperson added.

Emphasising the importance of upholding hygiene standards, he stated that heavy fines have been imposed on owners found violating hygiene rules. Director General of the Food Authority, Wasif Saeed, directed food safety teams to intensify operations against the adulteration mafia across the province.
