PESHAWAR: Adviser to Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif on Friday flayed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for threatening to postpone the Senate elections for KP if the members elected to the house on reserved seats were not administered oath.
In a statement, he said the ECP threat to postpone the upper house of parliament elections over non administering of the oath to the MPAs elected on reserved seats was illegal.
Elaborating on his point, the adviser said the Constitution had set timelines for holding elections within the time limits. “The ECP should issue an order instead of making threats,” he dared the electoral watchdog.
The adviser, however, said the KP government would move the court if the ECP issued an order to postpone the Senate elections.
“Calling the assembly into session is the discretion of the speaker and Nobody can dictate us on that. The MPAs will take oath whenever the assembly session is convened,” said Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif.
