PESHAWAR: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Thursday resolved to continue efforts for rooting out terrorism.
According to a handout, the resolve was reiterated at a meeting between the interior minister and chief minister at the Chief Minister’s House here.
They discussed various matters with particular focus on restoration of lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
They agreed to enhance coordination and cooperation between the law-enforcement agencies of the province and Centre to improve the law and order situation.
The meeting condemned the attack on the Chinese nationals and expressed sympathies with victims’ families.
The chief minister said restoration of peace and protection of people’s lives and property was the prime focus of the government, which would be ensured at all costs.
The police and other law enforcement agencies would be strengthened to better perform their duties and ensure peace in the province, he added.
Gandpaur said that KP had remained a frontline province in the war on terrorism that had hit hard the people and economy.
Meanwhile, the interior minister assured full support of the federal government for accelerated operations against terrorists. He held out the assurance during his visit to the headquarters of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines and that of the Frontier Constabulary (FC).
Accompanied by KP Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan, he received a briefing at the CTD on the operations of the force against terrorists in different areas of the province.
Later, the interior minister visited the FC headquarters.
FC Commandant Moazzam Jah Ansari briefed him about the operational matters and performance of the force.
The federal minister lauded the KP Police, FC and other forces for offering sacrifices for restoration of peace in the country.
